Paul encourages us to speak graciously with words that are seasoned with salt because people will want to hear more of what we have to say. But if we use our speech in a negative way, it will not produce the same effect and people will not want to listen to us. Jesus also warns us that we will give account for the words we speak in the day of judgement.
Let us therefore always aim to speak graciously so God may be glorified by our words.
THOUGHTS TO PONDER ON
For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. (Mk 9:49)
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. (Col 4:6)
But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. (Matt 12:36-37)
